03 / Training delivery & support
The equipment is the beginning, too.
A smart manikin changes how skills practice can be delivered. It also creates an operating question: what support is needed before, during and after the learner uses it?
The operating problem
Equipment and course authorization are only part of a functioning training service. Learners also need to understand the sequence of steps, obtain help when something is unclear and have their completion recorded correctly.
My focus is this surrounding operation: how to connect the learning path, support process and records so the service can be run consistently.
My role and the team’s work
I work on the operating processes and supporting systems around deployment, with the team responsible for implementation and daily support. This includes translating recurring learner questions and on-site issues into clearer instructions, support procedures and development priorities.
The work combines software and human support. It is not a description of an unattended service or an independently launched software product.
What is operating
The learning system supports real learners and their progress records. Completion still includes manual handling. A support bot can answer common questions, while staff provide remote or telephone assistance when the question or equipment issue needs a person.
Procedures continue to change as the equipment and software evolve. Field experience helps determine which instructions to revise and which issues to bring back to the course or equipment provider.
The next direction
I am working toward practical operating support that smaller training operators could use: adaptable procedures, software and implementation support grounded in the day-to-day work of running a location.
This is a direction I am developing from existing experience. The scope of any future service and the resources required to deliver it are still being worked out.
